SIMPLE SONG OF FREEDOM

Que me encanta el cine no creo que sea una nueva noticia para aquellos que suelen seguir este blog. Como todo el mundo, supongo, tengo mis actores fetiches….esos que suelen conmovernos con sus actuaciones y por cómo tratan y personalizan a los personajes. Uno de esos actores es para mí Kevin Spacey…un actor que creo que merece que uno vea su filmografía por la calidad que da a cada una de sus actuaciones.
Ayer disfruté la película que el mismo dirigió, produjo y protagonizó…Beyond the Sea, dedicada a mostrarnos la vida del crooner Bobby Darin. Todos habremos escuchado alguna vez Beyond the Sea, o al menos alguna de sus versiones (en español se tradujo como “el mar”). Lo primero que he de alabar es la valentía de Spacey al hacer un musical, con números de coreografías incluidos, en pleno siglo XXI, cuando ya el género algunos lo han dado por muerto. El mimo con el que trata la figura del personaje es digno de encomio, en una película que seguro que agradó a sus fans y nos lo ha hecho descubrir a los que no lo somos. El ritmo de la película es soberbio…el simple hecho de que un musical se pueda pasar tan rápido a personas, como nosotros, ya no acostumbrados a ese género es algo muy complicado. La fotografía y la escenografía eran muy buenas, sobre todo esta última….por todo ello una película muy recomendable.
Entre las joyas musicales de la película me quedo con esta “Simple song of freedom”. Escrita en 1.969, es una canción contra la Guerra de Vietnam y a favor de la paz. En uno de los 2 álbumes de música folk que publicó después del asesinato de Bob Kennedy, en cuya campaña había participado. Tras operarse del corazón en 1971 siguió cantando en Las Vegas, debiéndosele administrar oxígeno después de cada actuación. Murió en 1973 en una operación.
En tiempos como los que corren, en el que parecen que los conflictos a nivel mundial toman cada vez un mayor auge, sea en forma de revueltas, guerrillas, guerras civiles, terrorismo…parecen que son canciones como ésta las que nos hacen seguir con esperanzas en el futuro y en un cambio….
